The island of Hispaniola. The year, 1820: Lázaro (30), the introverted son of a daring deceased Spanish merchant, must carry out his father's final venture: a silk factory in the inhospitable heart of the island of Santo Domingo. He is assisted by Mei (23), a silk master brought from China, and Baptiste (21), a deserter from the Haitian army.
