Teresa's grandson returns to Valencia for her funeral and discovers a whole part of his grandmother's life that both he and the townspeople were completely unaware of. Beyond what the neighbours may think and through a tailoring business that she runs from home, Teresa meets Samir, a Hindu tailor who enables her to see the importance of respect for other cultures and how those who at first seem to be the most different from us can end up being the most similar. At the same time, the grandson, who lives in Manchester and plans to return there in a few days, begins to have doubts about where he really belongs and whether to stay or leave.
